
The Caswell County Environmental Health Program provides a broad range of services that protect and promote the environmental health of Caswell County residents. Environemtnal Health Specialists provide education and consultation to the public, investigate complaints, and provide management and leadership for special community projects that involve environmental issues. All staff members have met state regulations for registration, and are required to receive continuing education annually.
The Environmental Health Office is located on Main Street in the Post Office Complex in Yanceyville. Office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:00.

The Water Quality Program oversees the construction, repair, and abandonment of water supply wells in Caswell County and provides services to the public, well contractors, and pump installers.

Our On-Site Wastewater Program oversees site evaluations, issues permits, and conducts inspections to insure proper placement, design, construction, repair, monitoring, and abandonment of on-site wastewater treatment and disposal systems. This program has been recognized as one of the top ten programs out of North Carolina's 100 counties. It is a well organized program with staff members who are knowledgeable and professional. Caswell County's on-site program is sound and the staff produces high quality work.
| | Site Evaluation/System Installation Process | | We conduct site evaluations to determine the suitability of a site for the installation of an on-site wastewater treatment and disposal system. We also design the system, issue improvement permits, and construction authorizations, inspect the installation of systems and issue operation permits for approved systems. | | | | | | System Inspection | | An inspection is required when any new construction is begun on a piece of property that has an existing septic system and/or well. | | | | | | System Repair | | We evaluate problems with existing septic systems and provide possible solutions, as well as issue the permits required to repair the system. |

Our Food and Lodging Program inspects, permits, provides technical support, monitors, does plan review, and provides training for restaurant, food stands, meet markets, swimming pools, childcare facilities, special events, and other assigned facilities. We also inspect lodging and instituational facilities, including hotels, school cafeterias, hospitals, and nursing homes.
| | Inspections | | Quarterly inspections are required by the state for all food-handling establishments. Inspections are also mandated for public swimming pools, lodging and institutional facilities (such as residential care homes, nursing homes, and child daycare), and schools. Other mandated inspections include tattoo parlors and migrant facilities. | | | | | | Permits | | All facilities must obtain an operational permit before they are allowed to operate a food-handling establishment. Food vendors that operate at special evens must also obtain a permit. | | | | | | Childhood Lead Investigations | | An investigation is conducted when an elevated blood lead level is found in a child six years or younger. |
